revisitation [Mar. 29th, 2006|10:07 pm]
Back in august i wrote a journal entry about what kind of funeral i would like to have when the time comes for me to shuffle off the mortal coil. i have had some time to think on this and with the surgery friday i guess it's on my mind even though it's only 'a minor procedure first what i originally wrote back in august Read more... ) I want to admend what i said slightly. can i get a witness [Jan. 13th, 2006|01:39 pm]
oh and i forgot: some people just have a bad ear for understanding music lyrics i am having a disagreement with a co-worker i am pretty certain the lines from elton john's song 'rocket man' are "rocket man, burning up a fuse out here alone" not 'burning up his pubic hair alone' but i could be wrong.

cross pollenation [Jan. 13th, 2006|01:24 pm]
there's a show on cmt i really like its called crossroads. what they do is have a country artist and a rock/pop artist perform together and take turns doing each others songs you get to see the country folks sing rock and vice verse. some of the recent episodes had bon jovi and sugarland, zz top and travis tritt and probably my personal favorite pat benatar and martina mcbride. i got to tell ya, i have a real 'thing' for women who can sing it just about trumps everything else. my first crush was karen carpenter and i didnt even know what she looked like. i just heard her on the radio and thats all it took. ditto patsy cline didnt know what she looked like either at first they say the way to a man's heart is through the stomach mine is definitely through the ears. i figure the girl's gonna get a good gig you don't have to cook or clean for me just sing to me. i had a girlfriend several years ago who had a daughter who couldnt sleep very easily (she was autistic) and she and i would stay in her daughter's room and sing to her together until she fell asleep. to me it is the single most romantic thing i have ever expierienced.

(the title is meant tongue in cheek) So, ok, i admit it, i have to work tomarrow and it is 1am and i am still up reading and i found a quote that i really like and wanted to record while it is still on my mind. it's in a book about george harrison i am reading "beware of sadness, it can hit you, it can hurt you make you sore but what is more, this is not what you are here for" its from one of his songs but i don't know which but i like it. its dead on.

You are a Self-Discoverer

You're not religious, but you've created your own kind of spirituality.
Introspective and thoughtful, you tend to look inward for the divine.
You are distrusting of all forms of organized religion.
You especially dislike religious gurus and leaders, who you feel are charlatans.

LJ Interests meme results

  1. books:
i'd say the best book i ever read was "the great thoughts" by george seldes. it wasn't a book per se more of repository of wisdom culled from books from the greeks onward it also contained a lot of eastern thought as well. through this book i dicovered how much i really admired voltaire, george bernard shaw, oscar wilde, and friedrich nietzche among many others.
  2. dougie maclean:
I was living in london during the lockerbie bombing back in 1988. the had a benefit concert on the bbc and dougie maclean sang 'this love will carry me' it was one of the most b eautiful and uplifting songs i had ever heard. ever since then i have been a huge fan. i am at a complete loss to explain why he isn't more popular on this side of the atlantic.
  3. elvis:
the king. elvis could sing anything, country, gospel, rock n roll, longe, you name it. and i am completely hetro (i swear it) but damn, he was a nice looking man.
  4. gilbert and sullivan:
i saw the movie 'topsy turvy' i had heard of g&s before that but had never really listen to thier music, some very clever lyrics through some really interesting musical changes.
  5. intelligent conversation:
maybe because it is such a freaking rarity for me these days.
  6. monty python:
its an amazing thing but a large part of the credit my evolution from a scared rigid thinking church mouse to who i am today could be given to monty phython. besides it is a badge of honour that 'the holy grail' is considered by my parents to be one of the worst movies ever made and i feel the complete oppisite
  7. queen:
yes virginia. you can have intelligent and kick ass rock from the same band. queen was part of the 'big three' of my childhood music interests the other two were elton john and elo and freddy had a range on him that could make robert plant cry.
  8. singing:
i love to sing. it is what i do better than anything else. i sing when i'm alone, when i am happy and when i am sad. music is my most special friend and i will always be grateful for having been given by grace such a tremondous gift
  9. swimming:
i try very hard to swim every day it is great exercise and really clears my head
  10. u2:
i heard the album 'war' back in 1988 and have been hooked since. one of the few artists that i have every album they ever put out.

'lucid in the sky with diamonds' [Aug. 27th, 2005|09:20 pm]
ok on to something more palatable. one of my favorite things lucid dreaming. lucid dreaming is when you are in a dream and you suddenly become aware that you are dreaming. depending on just how aware you become you can just go 'along for the ride' to actually directing the dream like a movie. maybe its the whole fathers day paternal thing, i dunno [Jun. 19th, 2005|12:35 pm]
i had two very puzzling dreams last night, the first one, i am home and my cats (i have two in 'real life') are in a deep coma. i can't seem to wake them so i go and buy two rats to try to scare my cats into waking up. this only awakens one of my cats the other doesnt wake up. since the rats have done thier job i deceide to take them to this park to let them go free when i open the bag one of the rats runs off but the other one talks to me, and tells me it wants to be my friend to prove this, he directs me to this dog who was hit by a car it is a female dog and it is dead but there are puppies moving inside. i am compelled to cut open the dog and save the puppies which i do there are seven, four of which who live. in the second dream (which became lucid at the end) i am flying and i see this building and it is full of people i go in to the building and all these people are bing herded into this room i have the horrific sense of dread and i try to convince these people not to follow along with thse guards into this room since i am lucid at this point and realise i am dreaming, so i try to convince them by telling them they are dreaming i go over 'reality checks' with them to prove they are dreaming (like pinching themselves, asking themselves how they got there etc. stuff i do when i am dreaming) but while there were a few people i got to admit they were dreaming, no one wanted to leave so i got out a started to fly away, as i did i noticed from the top floor of this building people were screaming, i flew to the window to look inside. but unfortuately a noise in the real world caused me to wake up.

'echoes' [Jun. 6th, 2005|07:14 pm]
last december my grandfather passed away. since then, pretty much every three or four weeks i will have a dream where i talk to him. last nights was particlarly odd. I was at my grandparents home and i was sleeping on the couch when i awoke to see my grandfather in his chair. he said hello to me, and in a moment of lucidity, i told him i must be dreaming because i know he died, he said that i was dreaming but he was also really talking to me. he said he is staying at the house because he is worried about my grandmother and wants to make sure she is ok he said she was going to live for quite a few more years, and he was going to stay there and watch out for her. just then my parents came in the room and my mom got very angry and said not to talk to him since it wasnt really him as his spirit is in Heaven. my grandfather said she was right, he was in heaven but part of him was still there in the house. he told her it was like an echo, not really him but kind of a mirror image. my dad said he understood but my mom just got angry and walked in to the other room. i can not describe how real this dream seemed. i really miss the guy.

"holy cow" or "out of the mouth of babes" [May. 27th, 2005|10:11 pm]
A couple of years ago I was out with some friends of mine, who have a little girl she had to be no older than about three or four at the time. we were having beef brisket and were out in a resturant. after we were served our food, we all bowed our heads and said a silent prayer after we were finished , kat thier daughter looked at over at the plate of beef and softly mouthed 'thank you, cow'. i am resonably sure i was the only one who heard her. but her words really touched me. justifable parenticide [Apr. 9th, 2005|07:33 pm]
i went out to eat tonight after work and this couple and thier two twin boys who were probably 4 or 5 come in a sit at the table next to me. the mom was speaking to the boys, apparently these identical kids names were 'easton' and 'westin'. you know, if i was on a jury and those kids were on trial for killing thier parents, i may have to vote to aqquit them.
